Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Do your shopping at Savonlinna Market Square and IsoKristiina. Step out of the city life by going to Lammassaari Island and Repovesi National Park. Get out of town with these interesting Imatra side-trips: Siikalahti Wetland (in Parikkala), Savonlinna (Pikkukirkko, Olavinlinna Castle, & more) and Lappeenranta (Saimaa Canal, Sandcastle Lappeenranta, & more). Spend the 16th (Thu) exploring nature at Linnansaari National Park. There's still lots to do: take in the pleasant sights at The Astuvansalmi rock paintings, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Ruokolahden Kirkko, cruise along Lietvesi Scenic Road, and browse the different shops at Prisma.

In August, daytime highs in Imatra are 23°C, while nighttime lows are 13°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
