Sitting at the mouth of the Aura River, Turku is one of Finland's quaintest and most historically rich towns.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Teijo national park and Bellevue Beach. Step out of the city life by going to Kurjenrahka National Park and Vepsa Island. Get out of town with these interesting Turku side-trips: Old Rauma (in Rauma), Ruukin kehräämö ja puoti Oy (in Pernio) and Tulliniemi Nature Path (in Hanko). Mariehamn is the capital of Åland, an autonomous territory under Finnish sovereignty. Step off the beaten path and head to Museumship Pommern and Aland Maritime Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Mariehamn: Bomarsund (in Sund) and Aland Hunting & Fishing Museum (in Eckero). The adventure continues: get engrossed in the history at Kobba Klintar, explore and take pictures at Wiklof Holding Arena, see the interesting displays at Kastelholm Castle, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Lilla holmen.

You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Santalahti Nature Trail and Aurinkolahti Beach. Get outdoors at Arboretum Mustila and Ekenas Archipelago National Park. Change things up with these side-trips from Helsinki: Aurlahti Beach (in Lohja), Pyhtaa Church of Saint Henry (in Pyhtaa) and Porvoo Old Town (in Porvoo). Pack the 27th (Fri) with family-friendly diversions at Linnanmaki Amusement Park.
