#2 of 173 in Shopping in Finland
Occupying a quaint, 100-year-old building, Hakaniemi Market is the perfect place to browse for fresh fish, bread, and pastries, as well as other Finish delicacies. Architect Karl Hard af Segerstad designed this authentic two-story market place in 1914. The ground floor houses food vendors, while the second floor serves as home to souvenir shops selling handicrafts and interior designs, as well as a cozy cafe. Next to the food hall is the market square. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Hakaniemi Market by using our Helsinki vacation maker app .

  • This market is close to Helsinki's marina and certainly deserves to be visited while you wait for your own ferry. Mostly local food products, street food and souvenirs of various kinds are sold. Very colorful and picturesque, quite high prices.

  • This is a lovely market. You can get fresh fish, meat, vegetables and souvenir. I am sorry not to experience the old market which is under construction. Some shops start to close around 5pm. And if you want to try the famous salmon soup, you should get there by 2pm. Recommend!!
  • Went in August 2019. The original historical Market Hall is being refurbished at this time and the stalls have been moved into a temporary building right next to the original location. Interesting stalls and great food being served, especially if you like seafood. But the atmosphere was missing. Tried the very good salmon soup from one of the stalls which had a newspaper write-up on how good the soup is from the stall. Can't remember the name, but you will probably hear the proud owner mentioning about the newspaper write up if you linger long enough outside the stall.
