Johannes Church, Helsinki

#9 of 32 in Historic Sites in Helsinki
Architectural Building · Hidden Gem · Religious Site
Built in the Gothic Revival style, Johannes Church represents the largest stone church in Finland by seating capacity. Erected on the hill where midsummer bonfires used to take place for many centuries, the Lutheran church dominates the surroundings with its 74 m (243 ft) twin towers. Its interior is illuminated by numerous chandeliers and beams of sun coming through tall arched windows. This is not a typical tourist site, so if you want to see the interior or catch a concert, check the opening hours.
