#1 of 15 in Things to do in Inari
The historic pasture of the Siida feeds herds of Sami reindeer native to the area. The Sami are an ancient community of people who maintain the tradition of nomadic reindeer herding through the pastureland. Their practices are protected by law and so are the lands through which they move the reindeer herds. The attraction serves as a meeting place to learn about the arctic cultures whose way of life depends of the migrating herds. The National Museum of the Finnish Sámi and the Nature Centre of Metsähallitu work together to preserve the natural surroundings and culture at the site. An open-air museum as well as indoor exhibits display the artifacts of everyday life, such as textiles, clothing, and cooking utensils. At the on-site restaurant, sample the local mountain berries and reindeer meat--staples of the Sami diet. • The Siida Museum in Inari shows the culture of the Ssmen. Here in Inari, in a historic place. The Museum designed new rooms and also the open-air exhibition offers visitors much information about "live and work," the Sami. Well made and belongs to Inari as the eponymous Lake to the velvety culture!

  • A museum about the Sami culture and their way of life. The Museum is divided once to an exhibition in the Interior of the building complex, opened in 1998 and an exhibition in the outdoor area, which is there since 1963. Outdoor shows close the way of life of the Sami. I would like to not reveal too much here and I did deliberately not pictures. I wish you much fun on your journey of discovery.
