  • The German defensive lines, which are part of the Jarama Sturmbock, originally count OK. 50 km long and were supposed to secure a strategic path allowing the retreat of the German troops from Karelia and the protection of ports in northern Norway. The line consisted of m.in. With 800 slots for machine guns, 160 cannins and 100 grenade launlers. What we can watch today is just a tiny slice: a dozen fire stations, a few landowners and one position of anti-tank guns and connecting them with Transzeje. This is probably the element that is carved into the solid Arctic rock, the Transheye and fire positions are the most impressive. How much effort had to cost the forge of these trens in the black rocks here. An interesting fact is that geologists estimate their age for 2.7 billion years and they belong to the oldest on Earth. It is worth knowing that these fortification for the German mountain divisions was built by the Todt organization in the years 1942-44 using Soviet prisoners and 750 forced Polish workers. Their fate remains unknown, and the fortification has never participated in the struggle. The Germans left them without a fight in January 1945, the open-air museum complements a small exhibition in the museum building devoted to the war in Lapland. There is also a small café, some souvenirs and a very friendly host. Admission 7 Euro. It's worth spending.
