Snow Village, Kittila

Visit a winter wonderland at Snow Village--an entire village made of snow and ice that is constructed anew every winter. A hotel, restaurant, cocktail bar, and a chapel are mainstays of the design and make up the bulk of the village. Long snow corridors lined with ice sculptures connect the rooms of the hotel, which are individually created by artists and include bed frames carved out of ice. If you prefer more traditional lodging, rent a log cabin. Ongoing activities include husky dogsled rides, viewing the site's domesticated reindeer, and snowmobile rental, which allows you to explore the snowy region inside the Arctic Circle. You can also visit for the day and tour the snow structures after paying an entrance fee. The easiest way to reach the village is by arranging a taxi pick-up from the nearby Kittilä airport or the Kolari train station. Alternatively, rent a car and follow the detailed driving directions on the attraction's website. Put Snow Village on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Kittila trip site .

  • Incredibly gorgeous place, worth the money! You should go to the rooms. The price of the drinks in the bar fairly tourist more.

  • This year, the design was based on the series Game of Thrones, and it was just amazing. Each room and suite at the hotel that we visit during the day was decorated by huge statues and frescoes of ice. A transient hotel who is rebuilt every year with a different theme. For francophones, a 7 to 8 report aired last March. We met there, by chance, an acquaintance who worked there and he made a secret: HBO (cable channel American Broadcasting GoT) loved the concept and would be ready to let the rights of another of its shows for the theme of the next year. We're in Finland, so there is a big chance that the Vikings series which to be chosen... It can be fun too! So for the more adventurous, it is possible to spend the night in the hotel (1 night max conditions). It's not cheap, but it makes you want. We just haven't had the tps but if we go back in the corner will be tested because it must really be fun and unique experience.

  • We stayed one night at the Ice Hotel and it was an amazing experience and I would do it again. It was definitely cold, but with the right gear and prep, not terrible (it’s not a comfortable experience...  more »

  • We checked in and stayed in a cold room for 1 night and it was a once in a lifetime experience. First because it's not something I would ever want to do again, but it's really nice to know that I've done it. The hotel is beautiful and this year it had a game of thrones theme going on and the ice sculptures were beautifully made. After 10 pm all the staff will leave and the people will be alone at the hotel. If you've never stayed in a cold room before this is a very recommended place to try it out just once in your life as it will teach you something about your own body. The breakfast here is decent but definitely not the best I've tried in my trip in Finland
  • Full points for the fantastic ice hotel and really good dinner. The breakfast was good but could be improved a bit. Sleeping in the ice hotel is a highly recommended experience but one night is probably enough for everyone! You can visit all the rooms during the day but choose to sleep in a suite with ice and snow decorations if possible. They are lovely. There is a lot of outdoor activities to choose from if you want to do more than take a walk in winter wonderland.
  • Ok, it's a tourist attraction, but it's unique, interesting to visit. Maybe not the case to spend the night there despite it's possible. Well made and maintained, not easy to reach in particular if driving in the dark with snowfall, but that's part of the experience too. It has a cafe and restaurant too, obviously tables and chairs are made of ice.
  • Absolutely incredible carvings, a wonderful place to visit. Great for children and adults alike. Taking snowmobiles to the site really heightens the experience. The staff are friendly and helpful, the only thing to bear in mind is the toilet facilities are quite crampt cubicles so if you have to change younger ones out of ski clothes etc it can be a challenge.
  • Was here on a day trip to see Santa. Amazing place with Game Of Thrones theme ice sculptures in the bedrooms. My son loved the ice slide. I loved the ice bar but would have liked to buy a drink. They only took cash. I had come with just a card with me. I thought that for this spectacular hotel the restaurant didn’t match. It could have been more up market. We loved the outside activities though.
