Snow Village, Kittila

#1 of 10 in Things to do in Kittila
Visit a winter wonderland at Snow Village--an entire village made of snow and ice that is constructed anew every winter. A hotel, restaurant, cocktail bar, and a chapel are mainstays of the design and make up the bulk of the village. Long snow corridors lined with ice sculptures connect the rooms of the hotel, which are individually created by artists and include bed frames carved out of ice. If you prefer more traditional lodging, rent a log cabin. Ongoing activities include husky dogsled rides, viewing the site's domesticated reindeer, and snowmobile rental, which allows you to explore the snowy region inside the Arctic Circle. You can also visit for the day and tour the snow structures after paying an entrance fee. The easiest way to reach the village is by arranging a taxi pick-up from the nearby Kittilä airport or the Kolari train station. Alternatively, rent a car and follow the detailed driving directions on the attraction's website. Put Snow Village on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Kittila trip site .

  • Incredibly gorgeous place, worth the money! You should go to the rooms. The price of the drinks in the bar fairly tourist more.

  • This year, the design was based on the series Game of Thrones, and it was just amazing. Each room and suite at the hotel that we visit during the day was decorated by huge statues and frescoes of ice. A transient hotel who is rebuilt every year with a different theme. For francophones, a 7 to 8 report aired last March. We met there, by chance, an acquaintance who worked there and he made a secret: HBO (cable channel American Broadcasting GoT) loved the concept and would be ready to let the rights of another of its shows for the theme of the next year. We're in Finland, so there is a big chance that the Vikings series which to be chosen... It can be fun too! So for the more adventurous, it is possible to spend the night in the hotel (1 night max conditions). It's not cheap, but it makes you want. We just haven't had the tps but if we go back in the corner will be tested because it must really be fun and unique experience.

  • Very original attraction in the middle of the Lapland’s forest. I am not sure whether I will ever spend a night in one of the rooms due to the extreme cold, but guided tour is extremely worthy. I really recommend having a drink in the ice glasses.
  • Truly unique sleeping quarters. We arrived for the night at 1900. Had an hours tour of the snow village. Had a lovely dinner in the ice restaurant (there is a warm one if you want it). Then had the hotel to ourselves to wander. There is a guests area with kitchen, sofas, shower and sauna. Popped outside to see the northern lights and then off to bed. There are mattresses on the bed. The bags are comfort of -2 and limit of -9. You also get a fleece liner. We were not cold in bed and actually slept. Awoken by a warm juice drink and then breakfast. What an amazing unique experience which you will love and remember. The sculptures are truly amazing as well. Staff are lovely and friendly. Lapland highlight for me.
