In the meantime I am just as addicted to the dancing lights in the sky and for about 2.5 years I have been photographing myself. New Year's Eve in Lapland with Lady Aurora and experience the polar night - that sounded very tempting and I really wanted to be there. So I signed up. Arriving at the airport, we were already expected to be taken to our accommodations. But we didn't get far, because after a short time we stopped to photograph the first auroralights. Wow, that's what I imagined. We were happy like little children at Christmas and the atmosphere was exuberant. What a welcome. Also in the further course of the journey there were countless great moments and it is an absolute mystery to me how Thomas manages again and again, despite weather forecasts to the contrary and cloud-covered sky, to find exactly the place from where you can find the magic lights. and photograph. I can't say what I liked best about this trip, because for me it was perfect. Starting with the accommodation, over the many different excursion destinations at night and also during the day including the breathtaking Northern Lights, the time to rest, sauna or explore the surroundings on your own, to the unique experience of the Polar Night, which impressed me very much in its variety of colours and its twilight. Above all, Thomas, who with his incredible commitment, expertise, passion and sympathy made not only the very special New Year's Eve but the entire journey an unforgettable experience for me, which I was able to capture in great photos. So, if you want to celebrate the start of the new year and capture nature in its unique beauty in photos, this trip is an absolute must.
BEST New Years ever! How fun to celebrate twice, once in Finland followed by a quick jump across the border to Norway, yay for an hour time difference. Sooo glad I opted for the weeklong version of th... more »
Mr. Salamapaja, Thomas, THANK YOU. Your one week photo workshop Adventure Lapland was absolutely incredible! Thank you for being so generous with your knowledge and experience, you taught me so much about photography: how to really use my camera, about light and composition, how to capture the intriguing details and the magnificent big landscape. Thank you for your patience and humor! Thank you for sharing your favorite spots, your love for all things Lapland is highly contagious. Thank you for taking us out into the most amazing winter wonderland, be it with snowshoes, by dog sleds or on snowmobiles: meeting a reindeer herd in its natural habitat, arranging warm lunches in wilderness huts by the fireplace, and of course, countless stops to take photos in various Arctic landscapes and daylight conditions. Thank you for never rushing us, for always having a watchful eye on our happiness and safety, for being flexible to change plans, and for making sure all of us capture nature's incredible beauty with our cameras! Thank you for driving all night chasing Lady Aurora across state borders!!! Your boundless enthusiasm kept all of us happily awake. Thank you for constantly checking forecasts, for teaching me how to read them and how to spot the faintest Northern Light in the sky. You turned a childhood dream into a most probably long lasting passion. Above all, thank you for gently nudging me to focus on my camera settings for a few minutes, for helping me fine tune before I lost my mind watching this magnificent light show happening right above our heads and all around us. Truly a night to remember! It is absolutely thanks to you that I have photos to keep all these memories vividly alive in my mind. And, even better, I can say "I took those photos!". Thank you for taking such attentive care of us. No detail was too small, no ask too big. Now, dear reader who's not Thomas: DO IT! Contact him, book a tour with him. I promise you will be oh so happy you did. Personally, I hope to return one day and do even more of all the above.
