Ranua Zoo, Ranua

#1 of 11 in Zoos & Aquariums in Finland
Visit Ranua Zoo to see Finland's only polar bears in captivity near the Arctic Circle. The zoo is small because few species can live comfortably in the harsh environment. About 200 arctic animals call the zoo home, including lynx and wolves, and watching them play in the snow is a unique experience. The attraction is open year-round, even when the sun only appears for a couple of hours each day, and in the winter you can take a night safari through the habitats. Book a Ranua Wildlife Safari tour with a local guide to walk you through the habitats and to give you a chance to witness the animals feeding. Water-resistant winter clothing, lunch, a snowmobile ride, and transport to and from your hotel are all included in the safari package. • Although I do not like to see animals in cages, this zoo has reserved ample space for animals and perhaps will remain the only way in the near future to safeguard the species of animals. In the interior there are countless birds and Arctic animals. There are some times when the animals are fed and with the opportunity to feed them from various explanations.

  • Zoo is a treat-nice. The conditions of the polar bears were considered during the summer, when the other polar bears were mostly submerged and seemed to enjoy a cold bath in the weather of + 8. Some of the birds had little flight space and the Swans walked the edge of the cage with a frustrated appearance. The other animals seemed to have quite OK facilities. It was so boring that the whole of the play park was garbage-and there were no animals at all. Maybe the place would be more stone in summer. The entrance tickets were at a price. From us, 7pax paid €99. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very quiet in every place. On the other hand, it was nice when you didn't have to wait in line. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

  • Included as part of my tour package. Good place to catch a glimpse of artic animals - because I visited during winter, several were hibernating. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable 2 hours of guided tour, learning about the animals and what the zoo does to help conserve wildlife.
  • Around 1 hr from Rovaniemi is Ranua Wildlife Park. It is an awesome destination and a must see for all visiting Northern Finland. Ranua Wildlife Park is open every day of the year, and has an international reputation for its extensive programs in the protection of endangered species, and is well known in Finland for taking care of orphaned and injured animals found in the wild.
