  • On Thursday, my son took me to Finland. The road there is long, from the border three hours. We went to Savonlinna and visited an ancient fortress in the middle of the lake, very informative. We were lucky, just had time to join the tour (at 15 o'clock the cash register closes) This fortress, built in the 15th century on a rock, in the middle of the lake, all the stones were brought by boat. The fortress is big, gloomy, very cold... but it was interesting to see how hard they lived - and to know and ordinary people, at that time ... and lived hard - cold and drafts, there was no heating, as such furnaces and fireplaces were not, in the rooms on stone ledges sat and slept, and in niches kept personal belongings. Women and children lived in the tower at the top, all together... And the toilet, it's !!!!, In the tower attached something like a ball ...

  • It is worth visiting the fortress in Avonlinna. It has kept its appearance without destructive restorations. You can pre-book a tour of the Russian. Very educational! Who does not walk well, I do not advise: to climb high, the height of the steps is very large, up to 40cm. Last tour at 3 p.m. Duration -1 hour. 4 p.m. a bridge connecting the fortress with the mainland.

  • Great medieval castle with interesting history between two northern powers, Sweden and Novgorod, later Russia. Definitely worth seeing, if visiting the city.
  • I was visiting Savonlinna Opera festival. The performance was talented, the area was nice, everything was working. Not an easy access area!
