Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Start off your visit on the 8th (Wed): take in the spiritual surroundings of Rock Church, deepen your knowledge of military history at Fortress of Suomenlinna, take in the spiritual surroundings of Uspenskin Cathedral (Uspenskin Katedraali), then don't miss a visit to Senate Square, and finally pause for some serene contemplation at Helsinki Cathedral. Lappeenranta to Helsinki is an approximately 2-hour train ride. You can also drive; or take a bus. In August, plan for daily highs up to 24°C, and evening lows to 13°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Fri) to allow enough time to take a train to Lappeenranta.

On the shores of the country's largest lake system, Lappeenrata serves as the economic and cultural center of southeast Finland.
Explore Lappeenranta's surroundings by going to Kotka (Sapokka Water Garden, Maretarium, & more), Hamina (Hamina Town Hall & Hamina Fortress) and Mikkeli (Mikkeli Cathedral & Navetta Galleria). Spend the 13th (Mon) exploring nature at Repovesi National Park. Pack the 16th (Thu) with family-friendly diversions at Tykkimaki Amusement Park.
