Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Venture out of the city with trips to Inari (Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center & The Sami Cultural Centre Sajos). Spend the 3rd (Wed) exploring nature at Urho Kekkonen National Park. There's more to do: hit the slopes at Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort and surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour.

Fly from Akaslompolo to Saariselka in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of shuttle and bus. In November in Saariselka, expect temperatures between -3°C during the day and -10°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Thu) early enough to drive to Rovaniemi.

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
When in Rovaniemi, make a side trip to see Amethyst Mine Lapland in Luosto, approximately Luosto away. There's much more to do: don't miss a visit to Santa Claus Village, see Santa Claus Office, find something for the whole family at SantaPark - the Home Cavern of Santa Claus, and see exotic creatures in open habitats at a safari tour.
