Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Take a break from Rovaniemi with a short trip to Ranua Zoo in Ranua, about 1 hour away. There's much more to do: get engrossed in the history at Arktikum, pause for some serene contemplation at Rovaniemi Church, find something for the whole family at Moomin Snowcastle, and see Santa Claus Office.

Inari

Inari is Finland's largest, most sparsely populated municipality, with four official languages, more than any other in the country. Kick off your visit on the 7th (Wed): relax in the rural setting at Tuula's Reindeer, stroll through Juutua Nature Trail, and then examine the collection at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center. Keep things going the next day: get outside with Lake Inari, pause for some serene contemplation at Pielpajarvi Wilderness Church, and then surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour.

On the 9th (Fri), identify plant and animal life at Kopara Reindeer Park, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Luosto, then go deep underground at Amethyst Mine Lapland, and finally get out on two wheels at Luosto Adventures.
