An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Kids will appreciate attractions like SantaPark - the Home Cavern of Santa Claus and Santa Claus Village. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Rovaniemi: Amethyst Mine Lapland (in Luosto) and Ranua Zoo (in Ranua). Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Wed): see the interesting displays at Gold Prospector Museum and then examine the collection at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 2nd (Thu): get in on the family fun at Angry Birds Activity Park, then stop by Hippupuoti Gift Shop, and then gear up at Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort.
