An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Kick off your visit on the 31st (Tue): get engrossed in the history at Arktikum, stroll the grounds of German Soldier s Cemetery, then stop by LAURI Handicraft Shop & Atelier, and finally pause for some serene contemplation at Rovaniemi Church. Keep things going the next day: look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas and then don't miss a visit to Santa Claus Village.

On the 2nd (Thu), make a trip to Giewont Husky Adventures. On your second day here, explore the landscape on two wheels at Levi Ski Resort.

You can drive from Rovaniemi to Levi in 2.5 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Plan for slightly colder nights when traveling from Rovaniemi in January since evenings lows in Levi dip to -21°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sun) so you can travel to Saariselka.

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Get some historical perspective at Saint Tryphon Pechenga Orthodox Church and Saariselka S:t Paulus Chapel. Bring the kids along to Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort and Hippupuoti Gift Shop. Go for a jaunt from Saariselka to Inari to see Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center about 58 minutes away. There's still lots to do: hit the slopes at Urho Kekkonen National Park.
