Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Kids will enjoy Sea Fortress Suomenlinna and Uspenskin Cathedral (Uspenskin Katedraali). Finland's third largest city, Tampere boasts an array of cultural offerings and a lively music scene.
Kick off your visit on the 17th (Fri): meet the residents at Sarkanniemi Theme Park. Here are some ideas for day two: walk around Pyynikki Park and Observation Tower, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Tampereen Tuomiokirkko, then examine the collection at Vapriikin Museokeskus, and finally go for a walk through Finlayson Area.

Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Family-friendly places like Santa Claus Village and SantaPark - the Home Cavern of Santa Claus will thrill your kids. Take a break from Rovaniemi with a short trip to Ranua Zoo in Ranua, about 1 hour away. Next up on the itinerary: get engrossed in the history at Arktikum, see Santa Claus Office, find something for the whole family at Moomin Snowcastle, and stroll through Ounasvaaran Hiihtokeskus Oy.

Do a combination of train and flight from Tampere to Rovaniemi in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. Traveling from Tampere in December, expect Rovaniemi to be a bit cooler, temps between -6°C and -13°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 22nd (Wed) early enough to go by car to Levi.

You can drive from Rovaniemi to Levi in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In December in Levi, expect temperatures between -6°C during the day and -15°C at night. You'll set off for home on the 22nd (Wed).
