Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Kids will enjoy Sea Fortress Suomenlinna and Helsinki Cathedral. Get out of town with these interesting Helsinki side-trips: Heureka (in Vantaa) and Bellevue Beach (in Hanko). There's much more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Temppeliaukio Church, take an in-depth tour of Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum, learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Korkeasaaren Elaintarha, and don't miss a visit to Senate Square.

You'll lose 7 hours traveling from Ottawa to Helsinki due to the time zone difference. Sitting at the mouth of the Aura River, Turku is one of Finland's quaintest and most historically rich towns.
Kick off your visit on the 25th (Wed): cool off at JukuPark Turku, then have some family-friendly fun at Moomin World, then find something for the whole family at Vaski Adventure Island, and finally explore the galleries of Turku Castle. Here are some ideas for day two: contemplate the long history of Turku Cathedral, soothe aching muscles at Ispoinen Beach and Sauna, then admire the landmark architecture of St Henry's Ecumenical Art Chappel, then examine the collection at Louhisaari Manor, and finally take in nature's colorful creations at Kultaranta Garden.

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Sun): get curious at Pilke Science Centre, then learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Ranua Zoo, and then look for gifts at LAURI Handicraft Shop & Atelier.
