Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
On the 22nd (Sun), make a trip to Santa Claus Village, see Santa Claus Office, and then get in on the family fun at SantaPark - the Home Cavern of Santa Claus. On the next day, stop by LAURI Handicraft Shop & Atelier, stroll through Ounasvaaran Hiihtokeskus Oy, have some family-friendly fun at Snowman World Igloo Hotel, then pause for some serene contemplation at Rovaniemi Church, and finally don't miss a visit to Lordi's Square.

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Start off your visit on the 24th (Tue): stop by Hippupuoti Gift Shop, then hit the slopes at Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort, and then get in on the family fun at Angry Birds Activity Park. On the 25th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Pielpajarvi Wilderness Church and then see the interesting displays at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center.

Drive from Rovaniemi to Saariselka in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Rovaniemi in December, plan for little chillier nights in Saariselka, with lows around -17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 26th (Thu) to allow time for the flight back home.
