Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Get a sense of the local culture at Salpa Line Museum and Lappeen Marian kirkko. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Lammassaari Island and Bunker Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Imatra side-trips: Riverside Park (in Kotka), Hamina (Hamina Town Hall, Hamina Fortress, & more) and Ollinmaki Winery (in Anttola). Spend the 21st (Thu) exploring nature at Linnansaari National Park. On the 23rd (Sat), spend an exhilarating day on the slopes at Mielakka Ski Center. Next up on the itinerary: pause for some serene contemplation at Pikkukirkko, explore the world behind art at Lappeenrannan taidemuseo, make a trip to Viewing Platform in Puumala, and take in the dramatic natural features at Punkaharju Ridge.

In February, plan for daily highs up to -1°C, and evening lows to -6°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Thu) to allow time to travel back home.
