Imatra

Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Escape the urban bustle at Repovesi National Park and Saimaa Canal. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Lappeenranta Fortress and Niivermaki Nature Conservation Area. Get out of town with these interesting Imatra side-trips: Lappeenranta (Sandcastle Lappeenranta & Lappeenrannan kirkko) and Hevoshaan Arboretum (in Kouvola). There's still lots to do: admire the sheer force of Imatra Waterfall, get outside with Atreenalin Seikkailupuistot, step off the mainland to explore Lammassaari Island, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Imatrankoski Church.
