Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Step out of Helsinki with an excursion to Nuuksio National Park in Espoo--about 48 minutes away. Turku

Sitting at the mouth of the Aura River, Turku is one of Finland's quaintest and most historically rich towns.
On the 26th (Thu), browse the collection at Turku City Library, get engrossed in the history at Turku Castle, and then find something for the whole family at Vaski Adventure Island. On the 27th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the spiritual surroundings of Turku Cathedral, get engrossed in the history at Ett Hem Museum, then enjoy the sand and surf at Ispoinen Beach and Sauna, then examine the collection at Kylamaki Village of Living History, and finally test your problem-solving skills at popular escape rooms.

Rovaniemi

Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Kick off your visit on the 31st (Tue): stop by LAURI Handicraft Shop & Atelier, make a trip to Santa Claus Village, then make a trip to Santa Claus Office, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Rovaniemi Church, and finally take an in-depth tour of Arktikum. Keep things going the next day: see exotic creatures in open habitats at a safari tour and then get in on the family fun at SantaPark - the Home Cavern of Santa Claus.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Tampere to Rovaniemi takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. In December, Rovaniemi is slightly colder than Tampere - with highs of -6°C and lows of -13°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 1st (Wed) so you can go by car to Levi.
