Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
When in Helsinki, make a side trip to see Nuuksio National Park in Espoo, approximately Espoo away. There's still lots to do: step into the grandiose world of Sea Fortress Suomenlinna, get to know the fascinating history of The Esplanadi Park, take an in-depth tour of Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum, and pause for some serene contemplation at Helsinki Cathedral.

Grenoble, France to Helsinki is an approximately 7-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train, car, and ferry. On the 22nd (Sat), fly down the slopes at Urho Kekkonen National Park and then see the interesting displays at Gold Prospector Museum. On the 23rd (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: get all the equipment you need at Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort, then pause for some serene contemplation at Saariselka S:t Paulus Chapel, and then stop by Hippupuoti Gift Shop.

Visiting Levi Ski Resort and Kids' Land will get you outdoors. Change things up with these side-trips from Levi: Safaris (in Akaslompolo) and Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park (in Muonio). An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Get outdoors at Safaris and Nature & Wildlife Tours. Change things up with a short trip to Pyha-Luosto National Park in Pyhatunturi (about 1h 35 min away).
