An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Santa Claus Reindeer as well as Beyond Arctic. Visiting Safaris and Syvasenvaara Fell will get you outdoors. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Arktikum and Christmas House Santa. On the 20th (Wed), explore the landscape on two wheels at Levi Ski Resort. Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Get a sense of the local culture at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center and Saariselka S:t Paulus Chapel. Visiting Urho Kekkonen National Park and Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort will get you outdoors. Step out of Saariselka with an excursion to Pielpajarvi Wilderness Church in Inari--about 1h 10 min away. There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Gold Prospector Museum and join in the after-dark buzz at Saariselka Bowling.
