Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Old Market Hall and Kamppi Shopping Centre. When in Helsinki, make a side trip to see Nuuksio National Park in Espoo, approximately Espoo away. There's lots more to do: brush up on your military savvy at Sea Fortress Suomenlinna, pause for some serene contemplation at Helsinki Cathedral, view the masterpieces at ARTag Gallery, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Uspenskin Cathedral (Uspenskin Katedraali).

Awao, Philippines to Helsinki is an approximately 28-hour combination of car and flight. The time zone changes from Philippine Standard Time to Eastern European Standard Time, which is usually a -6 hour difference. In January, Helsinki is much colder than Awao - with highs of -3°C and lows of -9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Thu) to allow time to drive to Turku.

Finland's third largest city, Tampere boasts an array of cultural offerings and a lively music scene.

Saariselka

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Start off your visit on the 12th (Tue): stroll through Urho Kekkonen National Park, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Saariselka S:t Paulus Chapel, and then look for gifts at Hippupuoti Gift Shop.

Getting from Tampere to Saariselka by combination of train and flight takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of train and bus; or drive. Traveling from Tampere in January, expect Saariselka to be a bit cooler, temps between -11°C and -20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Tue) so you can drive to Levi.

Levi

Finland's largest and most popular ski resort, the fell of Levi provides excellent slopes and lively nightlife in an enchanting setting.

You can drive from Saariselka to Levi in 3.5 hours. Another option is to take a bus. In January, plan for daily highs up to -11°C, and evening lows to -21°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Rovaniemi.

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.

Drive from Levi to Rovaniemi in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Levi in January, Rovaniemi is somewhat warmer at night with lows of -17°C. You will leave for home on the 16th (Sat).
