Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Step off the beaten path and head to Imatra Veteran’s Home Museum and Karelian Farmhouse Open Air Museum. Popular historic sites such as Olavinlinna Castle and De tre korsens kyrka are in your itinerary. Change things up with these side-trips from Imatra: The Astuvansalmi rock paintings (in Ristiina), Ruotsinpyhtaa (Stromforsin Ruukki & Church of Ruotsinpyhtaa) and Taipalsaaren kirkko (in Taipalsaari). There's still lots to do: head off the coast to Lammassaari Island, get engrossed in the history at Woikosken Automuseo, take in the spiritual surroundings of Church of St. Nicholas, and pause for some serene contemplation at Pikkukirkko.

To find maps, traveler tips, where to stay, and more tourist information, use the Imatra trip maker.

Expect a daytime high around 22°C in June, and nighttime lows around 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
