Imatra

— 13 nights
Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Step off the beaten path and head to Imatra Veteran’s Home Museum and Karelian Farmhouse Open Air Museum. Popular historic sites such as Hamina Town Hall and Pikkukirkko are in your itinerary. Change things up with these side-trips from Imatra: The Astuvansalmi rock paintings (in Ristiina), Ruotsinpyhtaa (Stromforsin Ruukki & Church of Ruotsinpyhtaa) and Taipalsaaren kirkko (in Taipalsaari). The adventure continues: take in the dramatic scenery at Imatra Waterfall, see the interesting displays at Salpa Line Museum, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. George Church, and pause for some serene contemplation at Tainionkosken Church.

To find reviews, where to stay, other places to visit, and other tourist information, read our Imatra journey planning website.

Expect a daytime high around 22°C in June, and nighttime lows around 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel back home.
