An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Go for a jaunt from Rovaniemi to Ranua to see Ranua Zoo about 1 hour away. There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Santa Claus Village, get in on the family fun at Moomin Snowcastle, hit the slopes at Ounasvaaran Hiihtokeskus Oy, and look for gifts at LAURI Handicraft Shop & Atelier.

Take a break from Levi with a short trip to Safartica Yllas in Yllasjarvi, about 48 minutes away. Spend the 10th (Fri) on two wheels at Levi Ski Resort. There's much more to do: bet on your favorite at Icekarting Levi, make a trip to Giewont Husky Adventures, and get a taste of the local shopping with Elan Ski Shop & Rental.

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Venture out of the city with trips to Inari (Reindeer Farm Petri Mattus & Otsamo Fell). Spend the 13th (Mon) exploring nature at Urho Kekkonen National Park. There's still lots to do: stop by Hippupuoti Gift Shop and fly down the slopes at Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort.
