Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Sea Fortress Suomenlinna and Temppeliaukio Church will appeal to history buffs. Get in touch with nature at Bellevue Beach and Nuuksio National Park. Step out of Helsinki with an excursion to Inkoon kirkko in Inkoo--about 52 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Helsinki Cathedral, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kamppi Chapel of Silence, and wander the streets of Katajanokka.

Sitting at the mouth of the Aura River, Turku is one of Finland's quaintest and most historically rich towns.
Start off your visit on the 13th (Fri): get engrossed in the history at Turku Castle, tour the pleasant surroundings at Ispoinen Beach and Sauna, then get engrossed in the history at Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova, and finally get engrossed in the history at Ett Hem Museum. On your second day here, enjoy the sand and surf at Vepsa Island and then wander the streets of Naantali Old Town.

You can drive from Helsinki to Turku in 2 hours. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. In December, daily temperatures in Turku can reach 34°F, while at night they dip to 25°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sat) to allow time to take a train to Tampere.

Appreciate the collections at Vitikkala Manor and Emil Aaltosen Museo. Get outdoors at Riihiniemen Uimaranta and Rauhaniemi Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Tampere: Laurinmaki Crofter's Museum (in Janakkala) and Holy Cross Church (in Parola). Take a train from Turku to Tampere in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In December, plan for daily highs up to 31°F, and evening lows to 22°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 17th (Tue) early enough to travel to Levi.

Finland's largest and most popular ski resort, the fell of Levi provides excellent slopes and lively nightlife in an enchanting setting.
Start off your visit on the 18th (Wed): grab your bike and head to Levi Ski Resort. On the next day, explore the wealth of natural beauty at Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park.

Traveling by combination of flight and bus from Tampere to Levi takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, flight, and bus; or drive. Traveling from Tampere in December, things will get little chillier in Levi: highs are around 22°F and lows about 8°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Thu) so you can drive to Rovaniemi.

Rovaniemi

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: make a trip to Santa Claus Village, then enjoy some diversion at Santa Claus Office, then pause for some serene contemplation at Rovaniemi Church, and finally get engrossed in the history at Arktikum.
