Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Visit Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum and Cathedral of Porvoo for their historical value. Take a break from the city and head to Stand-Up Paddleboarding and Santalahti Nature Trail. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Helsinki: Linden Esplanade (in Kotka) and Stromforsin Ruukki (in Ruotsinpyhtaa). Sitting at the mouth of the Aura River, Turku is one of Finland's quaintest and most historically rich towns.
Visit Vepsa Island and Ispoinen Beach and Sauna for some beach relaxation. Do some cultural sightseeing at Turku Castle and Turku Cathedral. Venture out of the city with trips to Kurjenrahka National Park (in Poytya), Teijo National Park (in Pernio) and Rauma (The Church of the Holy Cross & Old Rauma). Inari is Finland's largest, most sparsely populated municipality, with four official languages, more than any other in the country. Start off your visit on the 7th (Tue): trek along Juutua Nature Trail. Keep things going the next day: see the interesting displays at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center, then relax in the rural setting at Inari Reindeer Farm, and then wander the wide-open spaces of Reindeer Farm Petri Mattus.
