Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Step off the beaten path and head to Imatra Waterfall and Malonsaari. Take a break from the city and head to Saimaa Canal and Lammassaari Island. Get out of town with these interesting Imatra side-trips: Parikkala (Siikalahti Wetland & The Parikkala Sculpture Park), Kummakivi Boulder (in Ruokolahti) and Nuijamaa Church (in Lappeenranta). Next up on the itinerary: step into the grandiose world of Olavinlinna Castle, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kerimaki Church, pause for some serene contemplation at Church of St. Nicholas, and explore the striking landscape at Punkaharju Ridge.

On the 7th (Fri), stop by Shopping Center Kumpare, then trek along Pieni Karhunkierros Trail, and then contemplate the waterfront views at Kiutakongas Rapids.
