Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Step off the beaten path and head to Nuuksio National Park and Sapokka Water Garden. Change things up with these side-trips from Helsinki: Porvoo (Cathedral of Porvoo & Porvoo Old Town). Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Wed): pause for some serene contemplation at Lemin kirkko, make a trip to Sandcastle Lappeenranta, then examine the collection at Lappeenranta Fortress, then explore the activities along Saimaa Canal, and finally get a sense of history and politics at Lappeenrannan raatihuone. On the 3rd (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Rautjarven kirkko, take in the architecture and atmosphere at De tre korsens kyrka, then kick back and relax at Lempukka Beach, and finally admire the sheer force of Imatra Waterfall.
