An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Step out of Rovaniemi with an excursion to Ranua Zoo in Ranua--about 1 hour away. The adventure continues: make a trip to Lordi's Square, enjoy some diversion at Angry Birds Park, pause for some serene contemplation at Rovaniemi Church, and take an in-depth tour of Arktikum.

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Saariselka: Inari (Pielpajarvi Wilderness Church, Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center, &more). There's lots more to do: fly down the slopes at Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort, get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour, see the interesting displays at Gold Prospector Museum, and stroll through Ruijanpolku Trail.
