Although many Koli National Park tours revolve around the majestic natural landscape, there are still plenty of things to see and do for those pursuing culture and heritage.
Get a sense of the local culture at Koli Nature Centre Ukko and Nurmes Church. Take a break from the city and head to Ukko-Koli Hill and Neitikoski Rapids. Step out of Koli National Park with an excursion to Paalasmaan Surukivi in Juuka--about 38 minutes away. There's still lots to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Paha-Koli Hill, hike along Paimenen Polku Trail, admire the sheer force of Tarhapuro Waterfall, and take a peaceful walk through Patvinsuon Kansallispuisto.

Joensuu is a city and municipality in North Karelia in the province of Eastern Finland. Visiting Utra Beach and Honkaniemi Beach will get you outdoors. Old Mine Mining Museum and Mohko Ironworks Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Joensuu side-trips: Tohmajarven kirkko (in Tohmajarvi) and Parppeinvaaran Runokyla (in Ilomantsi). There's much more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Pyhan Nikolaoksen kirkko, don't miss a visit to Sculpture Susi Kosiomatkalla, hunt for treasures at Joensuun Tori (Joensuu Market), and take in nature's colorful creations at Botania - Botanical Garden and Tropical Butterfly Garden.
