Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Sea Fortress Suomenlinna and Helsinki Cathedral are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Temppeliaukio Church and Uspenskin Cathedral (Uspenskin Katedraali) will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Helsinki side-trips: Espoo (Nuuksio National Park & Arctic Expedition), Valkmusa National Park (in Siltakyla) and Sibelius Hall (in Lahti). Pack the 14th (Wed) with family-friendly diversions at Linnanmaki Amusement Park. Spend the 17th (Sat) exploring nature at Teijo National Park. There's still lots to do: browse the eclectic array of goods at Old Market Hall, buy something for everyone on your list at Kamppi Shopping Centre, explore the world behind art at Kansallisgalleria, and wander the streets of Ullanlinna.

In March, daytime highs in Helsinki are 3°C, while nighttime lows are -5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
