Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Take a break from Rovaniemi with a short trip to Pyha-Luosto National Park in Pyhatunturi, about 1h 35 min away. There's much more to do: don't miss a visit to Santa Claus Village, get curious at Science Centre Pilke, look for gifts at LAURI Handicraft Shop & Atelier, and get in on the family fun at SantaPark - the Home Cavern of Santa Claus.

Istanbul, Turkey to Rovaniemi is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of car and train. Traveling from Istanbul to Rovaniemi, you'll gain 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Finland's largest and most popular ski resort, the fell of Levi provides excellent slopes and lively nightlife in an enchanting setting.
Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Levi: Seven Fells Up (in Akaslompolo) and Lapland Hotels SnowVillage (in Kittila). Spend the 4th (Fri) on two wheels at Levi Ski Resort. There's lots more to do: join the crowd at Icekarting Levi, take in the exciting artwork at LUVATTUMAA - Levi Ice Gallery, fly down the slopes at Yllas Ski Resort, and look for gifts at Elan Ski Shop & Rental.

You can drive from Rovaniemi to Levi in 2.5 hours. Another option is to take a bus. In February, plan for daily highs up to -5°C, and evening lows to -12°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Saariselka.

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Get out of town with these interesting Saariselka side-trips: Inari (The Sami Cultural Centre Sajos & Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center). Spend the 10th (Thu) exploring nature at Urho Kekkonen National Park. There's more to do: get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour and hit the slopes at Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort.
