On the shores of the country's largest lake system, Lappeenrata serves as the economic and cultural center of southeast Finland.

Start off your visit on the 27th (Sat): head outdoors with Atreenalin Seikkailupuistot, enjoy the sand and surf at Lempukka Beach, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of St. Nicholas, then examine the collection at Lappeenranta Fortress, and finally step into the grandiose world of Sandcastle Lappeenranta. On the next day, admire the engineering at Imatrankoski, take in the dramatic scenery at Imatra Waterfall, look for gifts at Imatran Kalatalo, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Joutsenon kirkko, then explore the activities along Saimaa Canal, and finally pause for some serene contemplation at Nuijamaa Church.
