Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum and The National Museum of Finland. Get some cultural insight at Temppeliaukio Church and Cathedral of Porvoo. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Helsinki: Porvoo Old Town (in Porvoo) and Nuuksio National Park (in Espoo). Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Thu): contemplate the waterfront views at Saimaa Canal, examine the collection at Lappeenranta Fortress, and then take in the dramatic scenery at Imatra Waterfall. Keep things going the next day: contemplate the waterfront views at Siikalahti Wetland, explore the striking landscape at Kummakivi Boulder, then make a trip to Sandcastle Lappeenranta, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Church of St. Nicholas.
