Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Go for a jaunt from Helsinki to Espoo to see Nuuksio National Park about 48 minutes away. Pack the 24th (Mon) with family-friendly diversions at Linnanmaki Amusement Park. Inari

Inari is Finland's largest, most sparsely populated municipality, with four official languages, more than any other in the country. Venture out of the city with trips to Saariselka Ski & Sport Resort (in Saariselka) and Gold Prospector Museum (in Tankavaara). The adventure continues: get great views at Otsamo Fell, pause for some serene contemplation at Pielpajarvi Wilderness Church, see the interesting displays at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Saint Tryphon Pechenga Orthodox Church.

Finland's largest and most popular ski resort, the fell of Levi provides excellent slopes and lively nightlife in an enchanting setting.
Step out of Levi to go to Kittila and see Lapland Hotels SnowVillage, which is approximately 46 minutes away. Spend the 1st (Tue) on two wheels at Levi Ski Resort. There's much more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Kids' Land, look for gifts at Elan Ski Shop & Rental, view the masterpieces at LUVATTUMAA - Levi Ice Gallery, and surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour.

Traveling by bus from Enontekio to Levi takes 3.5 hours. In December in Levi, expect temperatures between 22°F during the day and 8°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Thu) so you can drive to Akaslompolo.

Rovaniemi

Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Change things up with a short trip to Tatuka Reindeerfarm in Ylitornio (about 38 minutes away). There's lots more to do: don't miss a visit to Santa Claus Village, pause for some serene contemplation at Rovaniemi Church, Head underground at Syvasenvaara Fell, and see Santa Claus Office.

You can drive from Akaslompolo to Rovaniemi in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Akaslompolo in January, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Rovaniemi, with lows of 6°F. On the 9th (Wed), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
