Sitting at the mouth of the Aura River, Turku is one of Finland's quaintest and most historically rich towns.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Turku Castle and Turku Cathedral. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Bellevue Beach and Vepsa Island. Inari is Finland's largest, most sparsely populated municipality, with four official languages, more than any other in the country. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center and Saint Tryphon Pechenga Orthodox Church. Step off the beaten path and head to Lemmenjoki National Park and Gold Prospector Museum. When in Inari, make a side trip to see Hippupuoti Gift Shop in Saariselka, approximately Saariselka away. Traveling by combination of flight and shuttle from Turku to Inari takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train, flight, and shuttle; or drive. In August, Inari is a bit cooler than Turku - with highs of 19°C and lows of 9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Thu) early enough to travel to Kuusamo.
