Inari

Inari is Finland's largest, most sparsely populated municipality, with four official languages, more than any other in the country. Escape the urban bustle at Lemmenjoki National Park and Juutua Nature Trail. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center and The Sami Cultural Centre Sajos. Step out of Inari with an excursion to Hippupuoti Gift Shop in Saariselka--about 1 hour away. There's much more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Pielpajarvi Wilderness Church, head outdoors with Lake Inari, relax in the rural setting at Tuula's Reindeer, and wander the wide-open spaces of Reindeer Farm Petri Mattus.

You can fly from Pori to Inari in 8.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Pori in September, expect Inari to be a bit cooler, temps between 13°C and 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Wed) to allow time to travel to Syote.

Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Head to Imatran Kalatalo and MyGoodKnifefor plenty of shopping. Get in touch with nature at Imatra Waterfall and Lammassaari Island. Explore Imatra's surroundings by going to Kummakivi Boulder (in Ruokolahti), The Astuvansalmi rock paintings (in Ristiina) and Lappeenranta (Saimaa Canal & Sandcastle Lappeenranta). The adventure continues: head off the coast to Malonsaari.
