Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Nuuksio National Park and Kansallisgalleria. When in Helsinki, make a side trip to see Heureka in Vantaa, approximately Vantaa away. Pack the 14th (Sat) with family-friendly diversions at Linnanmaki Amusement Park. There's lots more to do: test your problem-solving skills at popular escape rooms, stop by Katajanokka, get engrossed in the history at Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum, and browse the eclectic array of goods at Hakaniemi Market.

Porvoo, one of Finland's oldest and prettiest towns, boasts cobbled streets, famous red-brick warehouses, and a charming river.
Step off the beaten path and head to Cathedral of Porvoo and Brunberg Candy Factory Shop. Get out of town with these interesting Porvoo side-trips: Kaunissaari (in Sipoo), Hiidenkirnut (in Askola) and Laurinmaki Crofter's Museum (in Janakkala).
