Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Imatran Kalatalo and Art Centre Salmela. Get some cultural insight at Salpa Line Museum and St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Imatra: Rapio Mill (in Juva), Linden Esplanade (in Kotka) and St. George Church (in Joroinen). There's still lots to do: learn about all things military at Imatra Veteran’s Home Museum, pause for some serene contemplation at Nuijamaa Church, step off the mainland to explore Lammassaari Island, and admire the striking features of Saint Peter and Saint Paul Cathedral.

For traveler tips, other places to visit, and other tourist information, go to the Imatra trip itinerary builder tool.

Expect a daytime high around 17°C in September, and nighttime lows around 9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Sat) to allow time to travel back home.
