An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Venture out of the city with trips to Pyha-Luosto National Park (in Pyhatunturi) and Luosto (Isokuru & Amethyst Mine Lapland). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Santa Claus Village, engage your brain at Science Centre Pilke, Head underground at Syvasenvaara Fell, and admire the sheer force of Auttikongas.
