When in Helsinki, make a side trip to see Nuuksio National Park in Espoo, approximately Espoo away. An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Go for a jaunt from Rovaniemi to Pello to see Ski Resort Ritavalkea about 1h 30 min away. There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Santa Claus Village, Head underground at Syvasenvaara Fell, explore the different monuments and memorials at German Soldier s Cemetery, and see the interesting displays at Santa's House of Snowmobiles.
