Inari

Inari is Finland's largest, most sparsely populated municipality, with four official languages, more than any other in the country. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Juutua Nature Trail and Gold Prospector Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Saariselka (Hippupuoti Gift Shop, Angry Birds Activity Park, &more) and Skolt Sami Heritage House (in Sevettijarvi). Spend the 30th (Mon) exploring nature at Lemmenjoki National Park. Levi

You can drive from Inari to Levi in 4 hours. Other options are to take a bus; or take a bus. In December, plan for daily highs up to -6°C, and evening lows to -15°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 9th (Wed) early enough to travel to Enontekio.

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Ounasvaaran Hiihtokeskus Oy and Rovaniemi Local History Museum. Go for a jaunt from Rovaniemi to Ranua to see Ranua Zoo about 1 hour away. There's still lots to do: get in on the family fun at SantaPark - the Home Cavern of Santa Claus, see the interesting displays at Santa's House of Snowmobiles, take an in-depth tour of Forestry Museum of Lapland, and admire the masterpieces at Korundi House of Culture.
