Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Visit Sandcastle Lappeenranta and Nuijamaa Church for their historical value. Get in touch with nature at Imatra Waterfall and Saimaa Canal. Change things up with these side-trips from Imatra: Lappeenranta (Wolkoff House Museum, Lappeenranta Fortress, & more) and Parikkala (Siikalahti Wetland & The Parikkala Sculpture Park). And it doesn't end there: see human ingenuity at work at Imatrankoski, head off the coast to Lammassaari Island, kick back and relax at Lempukka Beach, and pause for some serene contemplation at Lauritsala Church.
