An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Step out of Rovaniemi with an excursion to Ranua Zoo in Ranua--about 1 hour away. Next up on the itinerary: get engrossed in the history at Arktikum, pause for some serene contemplation at Rovaniemi Church, Head underground at Syvasenvaara Fell, and see Santa Claus Office.
