Mariehamn is the capital of Åland, an autonomous territory under Finnish sovereignty. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Kastelholm Castle and Aland Maritime Museum. Visit Bomarsund and Salis Batteri for their historical value. When in Mariehamn, make a side trip to see Aland Hunting & Fishing Museum in Eckero, approximately Eckero away.
