An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Step out of Rovaniemi to go to Ranua and see Ranua Zoo, which is approximately 1 hour away. Next up on the itinerary: take an in-depth tour of Arktikum, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Rovaniemi Church, explore the fascinating underground world of Syvasenvaara Fell, and don't miss a visit to Lordi's Square.

Helsinki to Rovaniemi is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also take a train; or drive. While traveling from Helsinki, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Rovaniemi, ranging from highs of 18°C to lows of 9°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Levi.

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Explore Saariselka's surroundings by going to Inari (Pielpajarvi Wilderness Church, Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center, &more). There's much more to do: hike along Urho Kekkonen National Park, see the interesting displays at Gold Prospector Museum, pause for some serene contemplation at Saariselka S:t Paulus Chapel, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Ruijanpolku Trail.
