Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Sun): stroll through Urho Kekkonen National Park. On the next day, get your bearings at The Sami Cultural Centre Sajos and then examine the collection at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center.

Helsinki to Saariselka is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and bus; or drive. Traveling from Helsinki in September, expect Saariselka to be little chillier, temps between 13°C and 4°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 6th (Mon) so you can catch the flight to Akaslompolo.

Rovaniemi

Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
When in Rovaniemi, make a side trip to see Ranua Zoo in Ranua, approximately Ranua away. There's still lots to do: take an in-depth tour of Arktikum, explore the world behind art at Korundi House of Culture, don't miss a visit to Santa Claus Village, and Head underground at Syvasenvaara Fell.

Traveling by car from Akaslompolo to Rovaniemi takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of shuttle and bus.
